Periyar River Lodge

Periyar River Lodge is Situated on the lush green banks of the river Periyar, adjoining the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary in Kerala, the Periyar River Lodge is an ideal getaway for nature lovers, bird watchers or just about anyone who needs a break from the humdrum of urban life.

It is built largely of teak wood, offers spacious guestrooms with a large comfortable lounge as well as sunlit verandahs that present a view of the river and the forest beyond on the opposite bank. Shown below is the view of the Periyar River in front of the Lodge.

The Thattekad or Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, named after the world-renowned ornithologist, the late Dr. Salim Ali (1896-1987), is just over one and a half hours drive from the port city of Cochin(60 Kms) and 30 kms from Cochin Airport. Dr Ali, often called the "Birdman of India," described Thattekad as the “birders paradise” with its teak, mahogany and fruit-bearing trees that are home to nearly 270 species of birds

The Lodge has 2 bedrooms, each of which is configured with either a double bed or two single beds. Tariffs are based on the number of rooms occupied and the occupancy in each room.

• Bird Watching : The sanctuary, home most notably to the Malabar gray hornbill, does have other exotic birds like the Ceylon frogmouth, Malabar trogon, White-bellied treepie and Heart-spotted woodpecker. One should see the rare Mottled Wood Owl, Spot-bellied Eagle Owl, Malayan Night Heron, Sri Lanka Frogmouth, Rusty-tailed Flycatcher, Grey-headed Bulbul and the Nilgiri Wood Pigeon.

The Tariff includes food on a fixed menu basis with options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians    ( breakfast, lunch, evening tea & dinner for each person is included in the tariff )
